Burials

Celebrate and remember the life of your loved one

Create a meaningful and respectful farewell

Organising a burial service is a deeply emotional and challenging task, but it is also a meaningful way to pay tribute to a loved one and provide closure for friends and family.

Kerr Family Funerals are able to provide you with a bespoke burial service in order to give your loved one the send off that you so desire.  Celebrating their life, honouring what they mean, can all be done in a very personal and intimate way, yet still contain many of the traditional elements of a funeral.  We work closely with your chosen cemetery, ensuring completion and timely submission of all the necessary paperwork.  We are also happy to work for you in securing the purchase of your grave and deal with all the necessary paperwork that’s involved too.

You may wish to hold a service at a Church or other location before the committal at the cemetery, however there are a number of cemeteries that offer the use of a chapel within the cemetery grounds itself.  Our dedicated team at Kerr Family Funerals are happy to advise on this.

We are happy to support you in planning the service, giving advice on music, poems and readings.  A service in the chapel can last from anything between 30 minutes to an hour.  Following this, the committal will take place at the graveside. Again we can help with the planning of this, or you may wish to use the services of a Priest or Vicar, or non-religious celebrant.  Many families are actually happy to be involved in this part of the funeral themselves, and will read a poem or share a few words during the service.

The purchase of a new grave has two elements:

  • Burial Rights – this is based on where the person buying the grave lives.
  • Interment Fee – this is based on where the deceased lived.

For both of these the costs can be significantly higher if you did not live in the borough in which the cemetery is located.  Contact our team who will be able to provide you with the relevant information.

The first step in organising a burial service is choosing the final resting place for your loved one.  Hemel Hempstead offers several options; Woodwells Cemetery in Buncefield Lane, and  Poppy Fields Cemetery, which is the newest cemetery and opened in July 2023.  Located off the Bedmond Road, next to Bunkers Park, the site covers 7 acres. This cemetery offers a serene and tranquil space, carefully designed, where families can commemorate their loved ones.

Consider factors such as location, religious or cultural preferences, and available services when making your decision. Respect the religious and cultural beliefs of your loved one when planning the burial service. If there are specific customs or traditions to be observed please just let us know and we will work with you to achieve them.
